60s Fashion

Few more things you need to know about '60s fashion

Skim through the pages of history and you will soon realize that fashion, along with pop music, went through a revolution during the '60s. Things were quite different as compared to the last decades. But, a deeper analysis shows that there was not a huge difference in women clothes when compared to what was worn by women during '50s. For instance, the Chanel suits and long skirts were extremely popular in '50s, but they never went out of fashion with new trends hitting the world in '60s.

The most impressive thing about the '60s was the smooth transitioning from long skirts to minis. Women started wearing mini skirts as it was not only more stylish, but somewhat sexy as well. So, it was thought to be a perfect choice to acquire a great feminine look. But, what was even impressive was the hairstyle – cool and funky. Here, it is important to mention that many people think the entire '60s fashion is about long hair and hippy beads, but that’s not true. The minis were in fashion by the middle of '60s, and long hair wasn’t around till the end of this decade – short hairstyles were more common during the early and mid sixties.

Now it is quite evident that women fashion in sixties was not entirely different than that of fifties. But, there was quite some difference in men fashion when compared to the last decade. Although that was time when fashion for most men was nothing more than a trip to John Collier, Burton or Hepworth, they were still more aware of the fact that they need to do something differently. And, that was the reason why there was a transformation; a big transformation actually.

In sixties, the suits for young people started to change in the beginning of this new decade. In fifties, the most in demand style was the one inspired by the Italian look – narrow lapels, narrow trousers and thin ties. But, that didn’t last long as people were expecting a change, which started to take place soon after the start of '60s. That was the time when people abandoned the idea of narrow trousers and lapels. Leaving Italian style behind, they started wearing flares with kipper ties. However, it is important to point out that kipper ties weren’t in till the end of sixties. But, lapels on jackets started to get wider well before the end of this particular decade.

It all boils down to the fact that almost all fashion related ideas were revamped during the sixties. Though there was a big influence of what was used during fifties, the difference was still quite noticeable. The great thing is that fashion transformation in those years was so impressive that people still consider using the same kind of dressing style. Many designers are now paying attention to produce something similar to that of '60s fashion, and you can already see it coming back in high school campuses. So, get ready to relive the good, old years!
